The primary goal of these games is to improve reading skills. The focus is on most commonly used words in as well as categories of words. The categories in this game are places, directions, colors, household objects, family, animals, sizes, food, feelings, weather, and body parts.
The player must read and have conversations with non-player characters (NPCs) in order to progress through the game. Each conversation comes with a picture and sound dictionary to help players learn or remember words. There is also an opportunity to spell each word. In order to progress through levels, the player must listen to or spell words to earn progress points.
In the written books there is a short lesson on parts of speech and grammar. It is not expected that the player become an expert in grammar. However, the player should have a familiarity with the basic concepts of parts of speech and sentence formation. The written books also give the player an opportunity to practice hand writing skills.
The player will learn how to read and understand words in sentences in order to locate and collect items in the game. The first NPC of each level will explain the goals of the level. Each subsequent NPC will give advice on things to collect and where to find them.
In summary, this game will give the player a chance to build vocabulary, spell, and read. It will also allow the player to use language in a way that accomplishes goals.
